Creating a State by State Directory For Your Ning Network

All that is needed to use this for your network to create a state by state directory, is copy and paste into a blank Word Document, Use Find and Replace tool in Word with your Ning Name with copy this -->(Your Ning Name Here) and replace with --> (livelaughlovetoshop)

Example--> http://www (Your Ning Name Here) /profiles/members/search?location=

To:--> http://www.livelaughlovetoshop/profiles/members/search?location=

When you have completed this process then try it by copy and pasting into a page you create.

When you click on state then you will see all members in that state, their profile photo, the link to their profile and a comment link. Great tool for meeting people in your city for creating offline networking groups.

i did this sort of thing on Land Surveyors United a while back...and even went so far as to create support groups for each state. take a look here

Im just not sure about these directions, they are probably easy but Im new to this sort of code stuff. Do I copy the code about and change to my url?

Hi Free Love, you can open the WORD doc attaached, then for each state, change to your Your Ning Name Here with the name of your ning. Once created I would save this code. Then copy and paste into a page you have created for it.

Hint: If a member tells you they cannot be found, when they look at their state, have them go back to their profile and change their state to abbreviation, this code is set to only use abbreviation's, to pick up your members. i.e. Memphis, Tennessee would be Memphis, TN, Tell them to refresh and try again.

I was just going to say that the code would not work if the state was completely spelled out. The way I got around that was, I listed the abbreviation for each state in a drop down menu for a profile question when members signed up. That way instead of typing out their answer, they chose their state from the menu. Takes a little more work on your end, but saves you from telling members to change their state, and also makes sure that everyone is listed.

Hi all,

i tried this and it works only for people in NJ. I created a tab "find friends" and I put the directory in there. In the profile questions I created a "multiple choice question" that is required where I ask people to choose a state. On the member's profiles it shows the sate they chose but I cannot search them by those multiple choice questions. I'm sure I messed up somewhere :( please help. Thanks, and God bless
