Often I am asked: Can my Ning Mobile App default to the Desktop View? Apparently the answer is: No (as of this writing, 1/21/2013). However, there are workarounds. Did you know that you can completely remove the Mobile version from your Ning Network? Or, as most of you probably know, the Mobile App offers a menu option for the "Desktop View". This allows any member or visitor to switch off the mobile version, and rely on the standard: "Desktop View".

How to completely remove the Mobile App from your Network:

This is what Ning calls the "Opt-out option": Don't want a mobile version? We've got you covered. If a Ning Creator removes all of the pages from the Mobile section of the dashboard, visitors will instead be shown the desktop version of your Ning Network.

Instructions:

  • Oddly, it's a little tricky to figure out how to remove the pages, but once you get the hang of it, very easy.
  • Go to: My Network/Settings/Mobile
  • Click on a Mobile App Page, for example: Activity.
  • In the bottom-right of the window, click on the trash can. Then click on OK. See video below. I click on Cancel, instead of confirming deletion.
  • After you delete all pages, SAVE.
