Many NC's speculated that this would happen and alas, the time has come. Check out GLAM MEDIA TO ACQUIRE NING, THE LEADING PLATFORM FOR CREATING SOCIA... to see what I'm talking about.

I visited the Glam Media website and I am left wondering what this really means for us NC's. According to Jason Rosenthal, "We will continue to provide you with the most powerful platform to create, grow, and manage passionate online communities. Ning will continue as a separate division within Glam. No immediate changes to the team, the product, or the business are planned as a result of this, and we’ll continue on our path of releasing new innovative features to make your Ning sites more successful."

For some reason, I'm a little apprehensive about being excited - how about you??

I am mercilessly pursued by the "Ning monetary gestapo". They keep billing me and billing me and billing me for sites I don't have anymore, nor have access to anymore. I don't even know what they were. I've many times replied to their emails, in various ways: friendly, harsh, soothingly, irritated... but they just keep piling up my "bills" and sending me several emails every week. I am so incredibly bloody sick of the bastards!

However, now I know they're sold, I would love to open ONE single new Ning site, because their software (although not perfect) is still be best of all the alternatives around. I have (some) confidence that Eric and his cronies will be removed fromt heir position of power. Eric was the reason I've lost track of my former Ning sites. I got kicked off the forum, so during the months it was members of my family that opened a few new communities but... the moment Eric got wind of their relationship to me they were kicked off the Creators Forum as well... and since they didn't get what they were paying for (like the ability to post on the "service" forum) they simply quit. But you CAN't quit from Ning. They pursue you until your death.

It's really amazing how such a potentially good business is getting compromised over and over again by the custumer-unfriendly attitude and behavior of their staff.

Jaaaaap! How have you been, man? Good to see you around again.

That's horrible what you're saying Ning is doing to you. Maybe you could take your complaint to their bosses. No?

Hi matey, howya doing? I may, just may, get sufficiently annoyed to raise a stink (evil grin)! Point is: is it worth my energy? Dunno yet...
@ Jaap: Understood. Should you decide to go forward with it, let me know so I can watch the fireworks. ;)

They finally admitted to deliberately ignoring every and all posts I made on Creators. So I left and came here to JenSocial - here you are made to feel welcome. THIS is our new hangout.

Really honored to have you here, Brian.

=)

I am a bit nervous about the deal. Glam media positions itself as someone who uses, users content in  profit sharing  kind of arrangement. They says their users don't own the content, though they share the revenue with the publishers.

In addition to it, my concern is mine is a professional network not related to themes based on men, women or fashion, so would I be left out in the corner to be shoved away  later on (as my network doesn't fits their bill) ... Please elaborate what does this change means for international customers (outside USA) and for career oriented professional networks.

All  I  can say is be on your toes   and guarded- last time i heard  oh we won't  change  anything  and  want to help imporve- look out  down the road   just  step carefully   and time  will tell  who knows this maybe the real deal now to iron all the bugs  and get ning rolling right   and really growing - praying  and  fingers  crossed
I think this is not good, but we need to wait and see, even thought geared towards women, they may be wanting get the men on there now because so many being on Ning. I hope they do not force their adverisments on us. Plus l know that when l click that link about, my WOT has it in the Yellow.  This is not good, l think it is rated on the poor side.. Wonder why?

WOT (and even McAfee which I use) may list sites as yellow or red for any number of reasons. They have both been known to be wrong.

If you want to know more about Glam Media, you can check their site, their history, and what they've accomplished over the years. This is actually a great opportunity for Ning. You can also follow the discussion here, where Ning staff are explaining the advantages of this arrangement.

Besides, if Glam Media (or someone else) didn't make the purchase, there would be no Ning. They didn't sell the company because they thought it might be "fun", they sold it because it was necessary to keep Ning going. I don't understand why everyone prefers to lose Ning than to have it saved.

Fantasyland, Glam Media is a highly respected and successful Social Media Content and Advertising Company. I feel it will actually be a boost for all of us to be associated with Glam Media. It will definitely impress potential advertisers and investors.

Also, I can't imagine that anything added to our Networks will not be opt-in, not forced. I could be wrong...time will tell - - and hopefully tell a nice story.

Oh, and BTW, Glam Media has been successful in moving towards all audiences, not just women. See their site for more information.

Best,

Jen

I feel sure you'll be given an option of using the Glam Media ads, or not.

Best Regards,

Jen
