Many NC's speculated that this would happen and alas, the time has come. Check out GLAM MEDIA TO ACQUIRE NING, THE LEADING PLATFORM FOR CREATING SOCIA... to see what I'm talking about.

I visited the Glam Media website and I am left wondering what this really means for us NC's. According to Jason Rosenthal, "We will continue to provide you with the most powerful platform to create, grow, and manage passionate online communities. Ning will continue as a separate division within Glam. No immediate changes to the team, the product, or the business are planned as a result of this, and we’ll continue on our path of releasing new innovative features to make your Ning sites more successful."

For some reason, I'm a little apprehensive about being excited - how about you??

Wow.....*speechless*
....that is a good start...
Frick.   Fantastic.  Just when I was starting to get good at this.  Man, I hope they don't screw us.

GirlRiders, this is the way I understand what Glam Media offers and has done in the past. I could be wrong, but don't think so. if you have significant traffic, your site is the perfect type of site that Glam Media is interested in, excellent niche content for targeted ad serving. If we are offered an opt-in type situation, you have real potential of making some real money. Glam Media is the type of platform that would match your content to the right advertisers.

Keeping our fingers crossed for the best,

Jen

That's what I understand as well and that is a good development!

Warmly,

Susan

Who knows. It may make some things better. It really just depends on where their interest are. Is it just a business acquisition and now they have a cool little ant farm project; or do they intend on honestly putting some real effort into supporting / growing the platform? It's too early to tell. At least it's not a company that's similar where they would be more apt to fold the entire thing to snuff the competition. They wouldn't buy it to lose money, but the ignorance factor does concern me.

Either way, back up everything (like we should be doing anyway), and only time will tell. We still have options if the ship goes down. That's one of the reasons we are here on JS anyway :)

Complete news for me, reading it now. I'm surprised I haven't heard a whisper of any kind, but been over the top busy these days. Thanks for enlightening us!

Best Regards,

Jen

kind of freaked actually, specially when I read one of John McDonald's response to a creator's question on what will happen..

"can't answer all of these questions immediately.  But I'll tackle the most important:

- We have no plans at this time (<i had to highlight this 3 words-) to change your ownership of the content, members, member data or network data on your networks.  You will continue to have full control over your networks."

At this time? At this time? Oh well, maybe it's just me. Hopefully it turns out for the best. Here's the link to the forum http://creators.ning.com/forum/topics/ning-and-glam

Yeah, not crazy over those words, and won't say much more due to legalities. Except to say, they can't change ownership of content, member data, etc...without some serious repercussions.
I'm reading all of the news on this, and like what I'm reading. Let me say this: some of the most successful Ning Networks are part of the Glam Media Publisher's Network. I like the fact that Ning will still carry the name and brand, just a different Division. Look at it like this - - much better for Ning to move forward and be acquired by a very powerful online Social Media Content Company, that can only have a motive to move Ning into the World we've all been begging for, for years - - real monetization. I think this could mean an incredibly positive future for serious NCs.
Weird... i'm apart of Glam Media and they are my highest paid advertisements but i don't know what this means at all.
Glam? Is that like a "girly thing'? I really don't like all the talk in the article about how they paln to serve up GLAM ads to all our members-will have to see what the future holds but i suspect if someone develops a solution that will allow us to seamlessly migrate our sites to other platforms-that person would make a nice living.
