What Would You Do If The Internet No Longer Existed?

Tonight I was reading about the Anti-government protests in Egypt, and how the Internet was "down", and about the protests outside the capital. And I'll stop there, because I don't know enough to give any valuable commentary.

Point is: This made me start thinking about the Internet and it's existence.

What would people do if they no longer had access to the Internet, period? Not that it never existed - - but that you've had it this long, and poof, it's gone!

What if the Internet completely disappeared, no more access, ever? I realize this is an over-the-top hypothetical question. But seriously, I'm curious. What would you do?

  • How would your life change?
  • What would be your future plans?
  • How would it effect your business? Obviously if your business is entirely online, you would have some big decisions to make.
  • How would it effect your personal life?

P.S. I just checked my email, and I received this shared discussion two times. If you did, I apologize. I definitely only shared it one time.

Take a book and read! Who cares whether internet exists or not?! It didn't exist in my grandfather's time. It didn't exist in half of my parents' life. But still they were very happy! Although I too have a very happening on line life and business, I am not a slave to it! I can adapt to a life without internet.

Well said! I think so many people don't realize what a slave they have become, to their online life.

Best Regards,

Jen

Once a friend told me that I would die if I have no internet access because i seem to spend most of the time on it!

I lived once without internet and the life I had was pretty much the same that i have, I used to read books work etc!

So no big deal!

But that question is so broad that is hard to answer, to lose an internet connection as a person? group? a society? a state or a country? The world?

Each one applies differently!

If I simply lose connection or internet disapear of my community I would move to other that has, and if the whole region has no access then would move farther, if the whole state has not internet then I would move out of state and if the country has no internet access I would move out the country!

Now in the hypotetical idea that ima  prisioner of the place and can't move for whatever reason!

Then the most likely thing i would be doing would be watch tv, read a book and make exercise and other leisure activities!

Now if theres a case where the internet is scarce due to been remote then i would have a life of solitude and be with nature, then I would even forget that the net existed!

If I belong to a society that makes a crime having the internet but they have it for official use etc, most likely I would be a hacker or be stealing a connection int he underground net society that exist all over the world where allegedle internet access is banned, I would exchange the net access for another commodity!

If the earth completly had no internet access, then would be the start of a new society where people would be more empathic and psychic abilities would flourish, plus we would have our own "internet access" in our minds, as been beings with the faculty of having supernatural and psychic abilities etc!

Then we would be a network or living organisms!

tapping in the etherial or akashic records when we want it, as well as the collective consciousness!

Instead of a computer we would use our own biological computers to make a connection and a link!

Then a new model of earth would be in place where money would not be needed!

Humans always have the faculty to reinvent themselve in the face of extintion!

Ok somebody explain me this pictures!

Im not sure if Im reading well!

does asia have more users than north america?

what the other charts mean?

The world right now is of 6,897,050,092 people, and internet users around the world are  1,966,514,816,

that makes them 28.7 % of the world, meaning that 70% of the world's population still not using internet, so basically they still living a world without internet!

Does the internet usage from the goverments and people made a difference in those countries?

Very interesting - - your comments about what you would do, are very interesting, as well.

I haven't time to research this minute, but yes, I would strongly guess that Asia has a significant higher number of Internet Users than North America, due to the population being much much larger.

Here are some quick numbers I found - - don't know how accurate they are now.

Largest Continents in Population

1. Asia - 4,055,000,000 (Over 4 billion)
2. Africa - 1,108,500,000 (Over 1 billion)
3. Europe - 729,871,042 (including all of Russia)
4. North America - 522,807,432
5. South America - 379,919,602
6. Australia - 20,434,176
7. Antarctica - No permanent residents but up to 4000 researchers and personnel in the summer and 1000 in the winter.

And I also guess and agree with the charts, that probably 70% of the World population is not yet online. However, as far as World repercussions if the Internet no longer existed? Here-in-lies a tiny part of the problem: as in any monopoly, the power and control that a small percentage of the 30% of online presence are Monopolies. The control they have on Economics, Government, and Security - - just to name a few, of the entire World, is mind boggling.

Yeah only one percent owns all the money of the world, and the fourth percent that makes the five percent of the world the beneficiary of this elite!

Wheter they are businessmen or politicians etc!

The rest is the employees and consumers, that in return are the ones who give money and whealth to those in the highest spheres!

The one percent are those big family names!

The rest are the CEO's that make them way or them families had some connections to the one percent!

most of the world is a consumer and simple worker!

there is a new movie called Zeitgeist: moving forward it talks about that very interesting as well!

Yeah I know, I did a quick research as well i know that the internet is time consuming and we never end doing everything!

Being someone who is obsessed with infinite knowledge and infinite versions of knowledge,  and staying up to date with events world wide , the minute they happen, I think I would cry and cry for days lol, I am being serious though. The internet has connected people across the world in the blink of an eye, provided a support base for people who are lonely or disabled to have a life, enhanced working life and boosted learning in schools across the country.  Information has become available freely to people who otherwise would never know what the bill of rights or the constitution is. Has allowed agencies to detect threats to our planet before they happen, even if they never really truly pose a threat.

I'm rambling sorry lol, to me, asking what life would be like with out the internet is like asking what life would be like with out art or medicine or good and caring people who give with no intention to receive. Honestly, what kind of life would that be? now with that said, it is fair to say that all things have their dark side, including the internet, the internet like TV has also separated families, ruined hundreds if not more people via identity theft due to the ease of such a thing via the internet, and has brought out door activities almost to a stand still for some people. Many people prefer to converse with their "online" friends rather then go out there and make real ones, maybe because they have issues and cant or perhaps because they just don't want or need to try because they can easily do it online, which brings us to cyber crimes, both online and offline where sex offenders fish for children on the internet, so as they say, every rose has it's thorn.

For this reason, I believe at first it would be difficult to cope, obviously as change is something not many people take to kindly, but there are pros and cons to everything as stated above, at first our very infrastructure would come to a stand still, my life personally would be affected because almost everything works on computers, and I would be forced to find a new way of life perhaps, but then at the same time, it's a new adventure! a new struggle, and a new journey, something to test  my  limits with and re-discover perhaps another side of myself, honestly i think it's all a matter of perspective, history tells us the world has been through worse and has survived, honestly can loosing the internet be any worse?

P.S. how would it affect future plans? well to tell you the truth, the future in my honest opinion is subjective therefor, the future is what you make it.
