Social Web Directory :: Social Network Directory :: Ning Tips and Ning Support
This feature is not so good at all. It will make your network more vulnerable to SPAM and easy access from the outside net.
I had encountered problem using this feature yesterday and reported it to NING Support.
Allowing anyone to "sign up and sign in" using yahoo, Google and facebook was a bad idea.
I enabled this yesterday on my network "expansionsystem.com" and two SPAM users signed up using yahoo, these two users sent a SPAM messages to all members of the network.
Not a good feature, it only invites and attract more Spammers.
I had to block them from the network and disabled the Signup/Sign in "Yahoo, Google and Facebook"
For now, I will not use this feature.
Ning creator and developer team should and must check on this and do more testing and case studies to avoid and prevent this issue from happening again.

Sorry, I can't agree with you on this, but just my opinion. And, like you mentioned, you have the option of not using the new feature.
Your comment:
"...and two SPAM users signed up using yahoo, these two users sent a SPAM messages to all members of the network."
This should not be possible, comment wall possibly - - but not private emails. And, if this is happening on your network, you have a problem no doubt. I would definitely submit a support ticket.
The new sign-in/up system is something I feel has been needed for a long time. And, I don't see how it invites more spammers. It may be easier for them to sign-up for one step, but they are still directed to profile questions where you can control sign-ups with captcha, approval if you want, and quiz question. And their email credentials are still a part of their member profile data.
Thanks for your thoughts and input on this.
Best Regards,
Jen
All that "Facebook/Google/Yahoo" sign-up feature does is when your new member signs up with Facebook for instance, they will automatically have a quick profile photo, username and password (same one they have with their Facebook account). In other words they skip those set up steps but they still have to go thru the rest of your sign-up steps.
