How to have your Domain.com URL forwarded to your NING site:

I spent literally hours upon hours trying to get this figured out I contacted Jen, domain.com AND NING Jen replied first of course :) and all others well they just replied today AFTER I got it working so I figured I would help others and keep someone from going through this frustration to below are the steps:

Once you have your domain ready on domain.com the most important thing to do is make sure that on your Domain Details page (reached through clicking on your domain) has the proper Name Servers: (If they are then just move to step 2)

Step 1:

Step 2:
If this is not set to the above then go to the Manage Domains and after installing the DNS Management item follow the steps below and copy and past the Name Servers that appear on the page of the DNS Management enter ALL of them on the Manage Domain Page under Update Name Servers. Click on your domain that you wish to use and then scroll to the bottom of the page and click Add Services:

Once on this page click on DNS Management and click add to cart and continue to click through until you have successfully bought the free item and DON'T panic! it is 100% free

Step 3:
Once you have added DNS Management to your account go back to the Manage Domains page and click on Manage

Enter EXAMPLE.ning.com Under the section titled CName Server and then click update

Step 4:
Next enter WWW under the Sub Domain for CName section as shown below and your NING URL in the section directly across the Sub Domain titled CName Server and click update

Step 5:
As suggested by Jen which totally makes sense you should wait at least 24 to 48 hours before moving on to Step 6 to avoid any unneeded frustrations :)

Step 6:

Now go to your NING network and click on the My Network tab and then click on Tools and then on Domain Mapping once there enter your URL with out the http:// in the field Alternate Domain 1 but do not have it redirect it will not work and then click save and your done!

Note: it will not work right away it takes anywhere from several hours to 48hours so be patient!

Well I follow the instructions up to Step 5 Thank you so much for posting this I've been working on this for the last 2 days and getting frustrated Is this how it should look

Now I get this Help Your A record for www.dreamcatchershugs.com points to 63.251.171.81, but it should point to 8.6.19.68. This not a valid url 8.6.19.68. An 'A' or 'Address' record ties a domain name to an IP address. If there is a server on the Internet that is configured to handle traffic for this domain, you can enter the name of the domain dreamcatchershugs.com and the IP address of the server (for example '64.85.73.21') and your domain will point to that IP address. Examples: dreamcatchershugs.com A 64.85.73.21
www.dreamcatchershugs.com A 64.85.73.21
Both your CNames should have your NING URL to the left NOT the right. At the right of both there should be one blank and one with WWW.

In your example you have: example.ning.comdreamcatchershugs.com this is incorrect it should ONLY be Dreamcatchershugs.com in both one with WWW and one with out the WWW.
Great tip! Thank you!
