I May Be Done With Toolbars on a Ning Network! What's Your Experience?

I May Be Done With Toolbars on a Ning Network!

I'll keep you all posted, and this is not the first time I've had to resort to removing external toolbars.  I may very well be done with Toolbars on a Ning Network.

When typing, I've noticed a delayed response for a day or so, and thought it was my computer. I've noticed a drop in traffic. Even my laptop has gotten extra hot from constantly churning. No darn wonder! I am incredibly irritated about this. Course, smashing my finger earlier today on a steel door, and working too many hours - - probably accounts for some of my irritability. ;-)

These toolbars run just fine on my other sites (not Ning).

I just removed both Toolbars, and the site is running much faster. There are some features in these toolbars that are important. So, not sure how I'll move forward. But for now, all gone. I am also sure that Ning Networks are running slower than usual, for whatever reason! So, the combination is no fun for anyone. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

What is your experience? Please join the Conversation. I would love to hear specific details. Tell us if you've experienced issues here (and I'm sure you have in the past 48 hours), issues on your site, what toolbars, etc...

Thanks in advance for your input!

Best Regards,
Jen

Yes I totally agree. Get a load of this. I'm trying to edit a client's site (a ning). I can't save my edits in the advanced CSS, because the skysa bar chat keeps hitting the servers, and I'm receiving errors. PLUS, I can guarantee that something is up with Ning and how the analytics box code is being executed. I've just been too busy to complain. I really not happy about what I'm seeing. Maybe it will flush out in a day or so.
Best,
Jen
P.S. Still want to discuss that other project with you. I'm trying to back up client files for delivery and fix one glitch, finish a contract, add a tip, and the list goes on...LOL! Oh, I feel an urgency to create this special room/page we discussed last night, where the toolbars will reside. You available around 5pm Central?
Ok, that would be 6pm my time...lol no problem. Yeah, that shouldn't be difficult you know...just trap it, your code is sweet for that...smile Matter of fact, I tested that code and it was sound...or at least the page concept...hugs
6 it is.
What code, LOL? I haven't written it yet. ;-)
Best,
Jen
Hi Tom,
Yeah, the embedded pages/iframes I take advantage of too in the Wibiya bar. I love how that works. I already miss the Editors at the bottom, and I know others must too. Because those links get hit a lot everyday.

Thanks for your input. Just not sure what to do. LOL. Maybe I'll add the Skysa for the Who's Online features, and see what happens. But, that still doesn't put the Editors back since they're in the Wibiya bar. Geez...LOL!

Anyone reading this please let me know how it goes when I add Skysa back.

Best,
Jen
i haven't had that problem here with your network's site bar, and the jisbar on my network is just fine. there were two occasions (maybe three) where all of the links in the bar were jumbled, but they sorted out after refreshing the page. my announcer thingee (socialpad) chooses to pop up when it wants sometimes, but that's about it.

i should also add that i have a barely decent internet connection. if it were better, i'd probably have hardly an issue at all.
That's interesting. Because as soon as I removed the toolbars, the delayed response which is maddening for me as much as I type, went away completely.

Thanks for your input. We'll see how this plays out.
Best,
Jen
Yeah, I'm really getting frustrated with the slow load times on the Analytics box code. Even custom CSS hesitates. It shows the original CSS, then implements the custom. It's not the best experience for site users, no doubt. I so hope with this "new Ning" things are better are load times, and especially the Analytics code.
Thanks Bob!

Since I have an old computer AND dial up, I couldn't be happier! I may even visit here more. On my site Pet Profiles Unlimited I just enabled the already placed Facebook and Twitter functions from the back office. Also another choice is to create tabs and subtabs. I have many and that directs us to many other sites, (for fun, other Nings, etc.) It is easy and no lag in downloading. Thanks Jen for all your hard work, with or with out toolbars!
Pet Profiles Unlimited,
ahhh, so the toolbars really played a role in a bad experience for you. Wow, so sorry to hear this. Am I understanding that it is much better without them? If I move forward and add Skysa back, would you mind giving me your personal experience with that?
Thanks in advance,
Jen
Sure, no problem. Again, thanks for all you do.
We switched to Skysa tool bar on Ning , because of problems i also was experiencing with the other toolbar we were using ; and so far it works fine for us .Sorry to hear about your problems!
A toolbar is a great piece of real estate if you use it properly. However, speed and user experience have to come first over content overload. Below is a great site that helps to analyse your site and understand how much of an impact your toolbar is having overall. Follow facts and data, do not go by intuition. My suggestion to all website owners is to make it visible only to sign in members that way you eliminate the load time for first time users and first webpage load attempt allowing your site to cache images and other tags for second and faster reload time.
