Mythbusters: Three Things We Aren’t Doing on May 4

Posted by John McDonald on April 20, 2010 – 3:30 pm

Since announcing that we are now focusing 100 percent of the company on enhancing the features and services we offer to paying Network Creators and plan to phase out our free service, we’ve received a lot of feedback from
Network Creators. We’ve heard from free and paid, business and nonprofit, educators and artists. We’ve been interacting on Creators, reading your comments on the Ning Blog and taking in your tweets. And, we’ve been listening to all of your ideas, suggestions and concerns. We’ll share all of the details of our new offering with you, including features and price points, on May 4. However, I know there’s been some confusion and a number of rumors circulating about what we will announce and then roll-out in early summer. I wanted to take a minute to let you know three of the things we aren’t planning on doing on May 4.

  1. Rumor: “Ning will shut down networks who don’t begin paying for premium services by May 4.” FALSE. You will have at least 10 weeks to evaluate the new pricing structure and make a decision to
move to the new paid service. We’ll be announcing the details of our new pricing structure on May 4. We plan to roll-out the new pricing structure in early summer and then give you a transition period to
    sign-up for the new offering.
  2. Rumor: “Only very large networks will be able to afford the new fees.” FALSE. I am confident that many of you, particularly those of you already paying for premium services, will be pleasantly
surprised by our new pricing structure. Our goal is to set the pricing at a level which will make Ning an attractive solution for both larger and smaller Ning Networks.
  3. Rumor: “This change means teachers and non-profits won’t be able to continue to use Ning.” FALSE. As Jason mentioned in his blog post last week, it’s our goal to have a set of product
and pricing options that will make sense for all Ning Networks — even those that have limited budgets. Specifically, we know how many non-profit organizations and educators use Ning, and we plan on offering an option that will make it possible and attractive for them to stay on
    the Ning Platform.

Hopefully this will ease your concerns (if you have any) and help get you excited about what’s coming up. I’m looking forward to revealing more on May 4 and answering all of your questions then.

Ning must be the only platform in the world doing its best to get people off its platform.

..@ fisrt when i heard about the rumours i almost panicked.. i wonderd why wud the NING director immediately shut down the networks without a a quite few time prior notice due to the fact that this was announced earlier and the rumours wer giving a very close date to the Ning Networks shut down.
Thanx for the update Jen... i think 10 weeks to evaluate is enough time for most of us to discover themselve whether they stayn in Ning or what...

In my opinion, when the network has been created has hundreds of information that has been a long time to develop, and this in a non luvratif, you're doing with this network and our guts because we are not able to work for health problems and that is one way to deal with while learning something, plus one year, it accumulates, the data. Someone who works of accumulating more and allow 3 months to change the discussion space is an achievement, especially in an unbearable stress.
By having few members and even moind of participants is a cross on all responses from members to do.
I collect already saves all the equipment in ning, because in addition, it is not there the same tags on other sites and I still need to know where Ning photos links.
And I refuse to corner some of this policy GAINST wall.
I realize that only those who are willing to pay are those who have the courage to learn another language CSS / HTML. I am disgusted.
While I understand that Ning is making money, just trade networks to win, because in any event, those repport a percentage of their sales

thankyou jen for this is sad tho the first message posted in forum it caused alot of people to leave and close some sites down. i tried to tell my members not to panic i did loose my most valuable member out of this panic she withdrew all material and resigned and posted many emails to all members to join her in outside ning sites. i wish there was a way to hide all email addresses from added admin on my site as i feel this person took advantage of my members confidentiality.. by the way i love ning always have always will. im in for long run as long as my health holds up. thanks, sincerely: ATLANTIAN TRAVELER

Romanian Society For Preventing Cruelty To Animals and Geneghis,
We cannot change the date that Ning will announce the new changes. Sorry. That is not in anyone's control, except Ning.
I do hope it works out for you.

If the ningcompoops can put on a better service, even for a small fee, I can get excited at the possibilities. The thing is it suddently makes them 'accountable' when there is a clear monergy exchange for this stupendous technical opportunity. It's too easy to get stroppy and bolshy with people when they change their policy. Rather than criticise ning for charging it seems that some people really need to work on their wealth allowing! :) If I can be of service in this, don't hesitate!
