Conversation on Twitter with former Mode Media/CEO, Former CEO of Ning

May 18, 2016

For what it's worth, finally "heard" from someone involved with Ning, the former Ning CEO - - and (just found out today, Former of Mode Media/CEO, as well), Samir Arora. It wasn't much, but great to hear he is listening. Does this mean Ning will improve their communication dialogue with Ning Creators? Who knows? But, maybe, just maybe, they will start listening, or at least tell Ning Creators their plans for the future of this platform. Honestly, this is the first time in 2 years I have heard one word from this company, other than support calls, "...working on the issues, updates to come..." AND the announcement: Notice of 2016 Storage Limit and Pricing Plan Changes. I just wanted to share this with you all. If you want to follow on Twitter, click on one of the links, below.

phpFox - Build Your Own Social Community!

I will continue to  design sites on Ning, help maintain existing sites. BUT, I am about to embrace the new version of phpFox! I love what I'm seeing.

This Blog post started out with sharing a very short Twitter response from the former CEO of Ning and Mode Media. It's turned into an active discussion on Ning alternatives. Join the conversation.

Hey Fire-tech! Good to see you, brother!

Clarification: It didn't take me a year to do the actual installation of phpFox. lol

I installed the platform in about 2 mins. The script is extremely light weight. I hesitated on installing the platform for about a year because of all the bugs.

Jen, Thanks for notifying me of this post.

I'd give anything to find out what's going on behind these closed doors of Ning and its parent company - Mode Media. I couldn't believe that part about Samir no longer being CEO of Mode but I confirmed when I saw it on Wikipedia (chill...it's now a respected source :P)

In March 2016, after 10 years as CEO and leading the company through it's 2nd major transition to a video and content platform, Samir Arora stepped down as CEO and Chairman along with Marc Andreessen who simultaneously stepped down as a Director of Mode Media

source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samir_Arora

Stepping down as CEO doesn't necessarily means he's no longer a part of the company by the way.

I'll be back later to catch up on the comments but just one quick note on phpFox before I leave - The platform as undergone an amazing transformation. It's now a very slick and very modernized platform with great potentials. I say great potentials because there's still a lot of work left to be done. Trust me...I know what I'm talking about. It took me about a year to install version 4 of phpFox (https://phpfox.excreators.com/). The initial release of v4 was plagued with bugs. The platform was being updated several times a month for months on end. I decided to stop counting and reporting on it after writing this post last Summer:

Another Update for PHPfox Neutron – Signs of Bug Infestation?

The platform has since improved a great deal but I had to stop an intro video I was doing on the platform after encountering a major bug. That was a few months ago so the issue may have been addressed in an update.

Best Regards

Jen too bad he's gone.  Damn.  Oh well, you tried.  Question for you:  Wordpress now represents over 25% of the web in the world and still growing like crazy, given these numbers.  With so many going to 'streaming' now (and less social), I'm leaning towards the big guy rather than small.  What makes you lean PhpFox over Wordpress?

Thanks girl. I hope you are doing great :)

P, ain't it the truth - - the Gina comment. It was her baby, and an awesome Team and growing platform when she was in charge.

Fire-Tech, Great to see you, always. =) I really wanted SocialEngine to be the one, and will still use them when appropriate. But the lack of a native responsive theme, makes me hesitant. So far, the new version of PhpFox is quite impressive. And, the communication so far, can't be beat - - except maybe in the good old days with Team Ning.

Interesting... but not too surprised. I might have to take another look at phpFox. I was really liking the SE setup with SEAO plugins... but not all that convinced that it's stable.

I've come to terms with walking away from Ning, but will always keep in touch with the old crew.

Good to see everyone on here again. I hope you are all doing great. Give me a call sometime P.

Right! Jason! To think, people complained when Gina was in charge.
