How To Customize / Add Text to Sign Up Page and Example:

  1. Go to Manage/Language Editor, and select your language.
  2. Be sure to give the page time to completely load, to ensure you select the correct language.
  3. MEMBERSHIP APPROVAL NETWORK (this should work for Public/Membership Approval, and Private/Anyone can apply): If your Network has been set to "Approve Members", search on this exact string: "Apply for membership now. If you're already a member, <a %s>sign in</a>." without the quotes.
  4. NO MEMBERSHIP APPROVAL NETWORK: If your Network has NOT been set to "Approve Members", search on this exact string: "Already a member? <a %s>Click here to sign in</a>." without the quotes.
  5. The Ning Directory example uses #3 - Membership Approval Sign Up Page.
  6. You will see a box in the right column that contains the search string you entered. This is where you want to add your custom content.
  7. Add your custom text. Be sure to keep the "Apply for membership now. If you're already a member, <a %s>sign in</a>.", or the "Already a member? <a %s>Click here to sign in</a>." syntax, without the quotes. The safest bet: add your custom text below the special line.
  8. Click on Save.

  • Test this on a test site first. Be sure to access your Sign Up page on the test site, to see your results.
  • See attached text/HTML file. It's fairly extreme, but will give you the exact text/HTML it took, to create the Sign Up page on the Ning Directory. You'll notice, I alter the "Apply for membership now. If you're already a member, <a %s>sign in</a>." line.
  • Bottom line: you can add simple text with HTML attributes, via this Language Editor box. Be sure to keep the original line of code.

I keep my HTML in a file on my computer, tweak and get it ready, then I add to the language
editor.

Good Luck,
Jen

I dont see a little green box on mine
Thanks for catching that! You all have to keep a watch on me. Sometimes I type so much, I leave words out. My eyes see the missing words! LOL, but seriously...I left out some words! Here's the correct wording (and I fixed it above):

"You will see a box in the right column. In the example above, the box has a light green background because it already contains text. Your box will be white."

Best,
Jen
My page isnt set up that way. Dont know why but Im not seeing the same thing as you did. I followed everything just like it says....but eh....its not the same thing. I can really only edit the site's description but that only takes 75 words. I dont have the buttons as in your photo above. Darn I wish I hadnt broken ours so I could show you what I mean! Oohhhh! I found it! I was hitting the wrong button...ok I'll let you know how this works out. Thanks Jen.
By the way, the box is a light green. I was just hitting the wrong button.
When I tested it, and no changed content was in the box, it was white, LOL! Who knows? I think I'll just remove everything about color of box.

Thanks again,
Jen
No problem...I was just testing it to see if I could do it....I did...so I left it...Thanks Jen.
Simple HTML is still allowed, just no scripts and some advanced HTML.
Things like centering and padding, or adding styles to HTML elements, marquee, etc... I've had issues with all of these.
:-)
yikes! well i'm about to give it a try now. i have centered text and a centered image. i'll let you know how it goes. thanks
I think you'll be fine with image centering. I added a centered image on JenSocial signup page, just recently, and it worked fine. I can't even remember what issues I had before, I just remember I had some even with simple HTML.
Best,
Jen
it works! unfortunately, the letters are incredibly tiny, and centering won't work. but you did warn me. i think what i'll do is create my text as image and paste the image html in the editor.
You'll probably need to assign hard values to the font size, like in a paragraph tag.
