PLEASE GRAB AND EDIT YOUR CODE BY RIGHT-CLICKING ON TEXT FILE ATTACHMENT, BELOW.

Right-click, and "Save Link or Save As", to save the text file to your computer. This Discussion box editor is inadvertently throwing in spaces and line feeds. This messes up the code. Use the text file, please.

How To Add A Scrolling Marquee

Although we offer similar tips, this Tip gives more examples, details, and shows you how to add images and hyperlinks. Also, this marquee is special, in that; when a user mouses over your scrollbox, the message will pause. You can add a scrolling marquee to Text Boxes, Pages, and your main Text Box on your Profile page. The Marquee Code will not work in a Ning Discussion Box.

Please see attached text file. You can also copy/paste the code from the example link above.

Would this go in the advance setting?? and where in the code do l add the text??
You can add a scrolling marquee to Text Boxes, Pages, and main Text Box on your Profile Page. I changed the text to red, in the first example. That's where you add your text.
Best Regards,
Jen

I tried to add this in a Text Box, and when I hit save it changed it, dropped parts so it won't work. Is there a setting in the text box, or something I'm missing so it doesn't modify my code?

onmouseover="this.stop();" onmouseout="this.start();"
scrolldelay="125" scrollamount="3" direction="left" height="25"
width="100%" vspace="0" bgcolor="#be1176" style="font-weight: bold;
font-family: Verdana; color: #FFFFFF; font-size:14px;">Testing.
I'm not seeing all of the code in your example. Look back at the sample code, and make sure you include all tags. ;-)
Hope this helps,
Jen

I include ALL the code, hit save and this is what it changes to, it erases parts of the code. This is what the code looks like after I save the text box.

Hi GirlRiders,
I apologize. I misunderstood. Now, I have tried this code on a new test site of mine. I am experiencing the same thing. This is very frustrating. Because, I don't know what Ning has done to change this, or why it's stripping the code. It has worked fine, for a very long time. I will try to shoot a support ticket over to Ning about this. You may want to do the same. I know there is something about them "turning on javascript" for networks, but it has to be requested. This is a new thing, and I'm not even sure that's an accurate statement. I don't like these type of changes at all. Please let me know if you find out anything before I do. They may give us a hard time about the marquee tag. It's "no longer supported" in most browsers. Or so the WWW world says. It's always worked for me.
I am very sorry for this inconvenience.
Best Regards,
Jen
WAIT, LOL! I found the issue. When you copy/paste the code from the Discussion box above, it is throwing in invisible characters. You have to delete all line feeds, and then put the spaces back. Give me a few minutes. I will create a plain jane text file with the code for all 3 cases. Then, just right-click and save the text file. Edit with notepad, and copy only the section you want. That will work.
Best,
Jen

GOOD JOB JEN!! That did the trick! Thank you!!!!
You are quite welcome. Apparently after the last platform update, it caused the original "raw" code above, to contain invisible characters. I hope this doesn't happen on a lot of our tips. If so, I'll just have to fix them as they come. I'm happy it worked out for you. I'm glad you brought this to my attention. Thanks back!
Best Regards,
Jen

I just found another use for this. I used the vertical scrolling box and included links to all the major pages on my site. I put it in the column where it will show on every ones page. Another menu to get people looking around at all the cool things on my site ;)

Something I didn't know would happen - when you have it show on every one's page - it takes the font color of that page's theme. I like it! But be careful of the background you choose or you may not see the font on some pages.
Hey Parent Practice, i have tried the codes in your blog, but my images are not showing? how do i put an image in a marquue?

I have a blog that demostrates a very simple marquee code and I have installed it on a ning network so members scroll on the members page.
first make sure you have no featured members

manage> language editor > (your sites language) edit

search for > All Members

paste your marquee code directly under any text and hit save.
