Excellent question - - I thought I had mine set like this, but did not. Thanks for the reminder.

I call it the grid view. Add this to a new tab on your network:
/forum/category/list?pageSize=100

Update: There is a better way to do this. Robert helped me out.

Instructions:
Go to Manage/Discussion Forum
Under: Main Forum Page Style
Select Latest Discussions by Category.


If for any reason this doesn't work, add this path to a new tab on your network:
/forum/category/list?pageSize=100

And like I mentioned to Deborah, you could have both formats, using the regular forum link /forum and the special link.

Hi Deborah,
Just use the new instructions, and your regular forum tab will access the special layout (like image above).

Instructions:
Go to Manage/Discussion Forum
Under: Main Forum Page Style
Select Latest Discussions by Category.


If for any reason this doesn't work, add this path to a new tab on your network:
/forum/category/list?pageSize=100
And you could have both, by using the special link, and not changing via the Manage panel - - if that makes sense.

Hi Deborah,
No. I don't know of a way to show the full forum layout on home page, or even the popular contributors column. It's a great idea to suggest to Ning, on Creators. ;-)
