The root of all our woes of nowadays is, if in flight, the dive in a huff of our values or, in motion, the sudden swerve, from the time-tested standard of morality.
Common sense is replaced by lapses in judgment that entails apology to preclude any idea of reproach or reprimand--thus the famous ad lib, "I am sorry!"
Common morality, like promise keeping, respect for the other person, recognition of human rights, intellectual property rights, integrity, honor, etcetera, are relegated to an obsolete virtue of the past, that now I mention them, chances are a section of our society are bloating with derisive laughter.
Moral fortitude is a bad joke. People enjoyed pampering their tots with fair skin or aquiline nose with a new tune in a lullaby: "Paglaki mo, marami kang paiiyakin...BABAE"(when you grow up, many girls will CRY --heaven --over you...tama ba yon) or "Magkakandarapa sila pag dalaga ka na!" (They will kiss the ground below your heels on your debut...lumalayo yata, mahirap mag-translate).
It all seems that educational policy-makers are shy in meeting headlong the onslaught of western influence that is short of moral grounds and, instead, welcome them as "if you cannot win them, join them".
A statesman could not have been ostracized had he lost the timing in the punchline of his light banter, "If rape is inevitable, welcome and enjoy it!"
A maverick TV host almost get fired out of his remarks at a wrong time....
Pro or con, if you talk on values, you may get entangle in a mess without knowing why. To be safe, dance with the music--rap, pop, tap--but ...lewd or not, no comment...
Quo vadis, Filipino?
