Have you ever needed to combine several RSS Feeds into one?
Yahoo Pipes is a great way to accomplish this. Yahoo pipes is intimidating at first. But, once you learn how to build the first pipe, it's easy.
Tips for new Yahoo Pipes Users:
1. Create your
Yahoo Pipe Account
2. Click on Create Pipe
3. Go to your RSS Feed URL and copy the URL. Most websites or Social Networking platforms have multiple RSS Feeds. And most are accessible by clicking on the RSS Feed button/icon below any module that provides RSS.
4. For example on a Ning Network (like on this site), the Latest Activity RSS Feed URL looks like this:
http://jensocial.com/activity/log/list?fmt=rss
5. Go back to the
Yahoo Pipe Creation Page - - Look in left column, and find "
Fetch Feed".
6. Drag/Drop "
Fetch Feed" to right canvas, above "
Pipe Output".
7. Enter your RSS URL in the "Fetch Feed" box.
8. If you want to combine multiple RSS Feeds, click on the
+ and add multiple RSS URLs.
9. Now you're ready to connect the feed, to the output.
10. Locate the tiny white circle (outlined in blue) at bottom center of the "Fetch Feed".
11. Drag that circle, and it turns into a
pipe. Drag it to the "Pipe Output" box, top center. Whala! They are connected. You've created your first Yahoo Pipe!
12. Click on SAVE, and name your pipe.
13. From the main Pipe Control page, click on "My Pipes".
14. Highlight (mouseover) the entire rectangular box for your new pipe. If you want others and Google to pick up the pipe content, click on Publish. This is a great way for viral distribution.
15. Now, grab your pipe code, and add to your website. I suggest 1 of these 2 methods for grabbing the code:
A. Get as a Badge. OR
B. Get as RSS.
16. If a Ning Network, paste to a text box. Otherwise, you should be able to add the Badge Widget code to any HTML page.
Whew, You're done. :-)
