I am adding a new tip section for Premium Tips. These are the tips that take me hours to create and explain. Some of our current free tips have been lifted by another Ning Site (which will remain nameless), and used as their own. If they had given credit and a link back here, no problem. But, not the case. I enjoy sharing knowledge. But, I don't like feeling like my hard work and time is being taken advantage of.

Due to this, and so much time I spend on some of the tips: I will offer Premium Tips for a very small donation. These tips will be copyrighted. I have to do something to protect my/our interest and time.

Do you think this is fair? And, should I charge a flat fee like $9.95 per tip, or let the member donate what they choose to donate?

Don't worry. I will always offer free tips, as well. Premium will only be the special tips, that not many people have the knowledge to provide. Additionally, these will be the tips that I charge for my time, to install on Ning Sites and/or other websites. Feel free to be honest.

Also, keep in mind: sometimes I want to offer a tip that I can't stop and create, due to my time needed to generate money, to pay the bills. LOL If I know I can get a little hamburger money, then I would have more time to dedicate to some high quality premium tips.

jen, your site has helped me so much, i love it, i cant seem to get enough of the wonderful tips,i do feel like you deserve to be paid for all your hard work, but i do agree asking for donations seems better, i am going though alot of health issues , and i cant afford to pay , i have made a small donation once and would be glad  to make another small one, i sure want all your tips, i would hate to think i missed out cause i couldnt afford it.~sherri

This is a very old discussion that picked back up, not sure why. The new premium tips buzz is about a new Group that will contain special premium tips. These tips will still be open to the public and free.

Charging may bring profits to jensocial and prevent people from stealing tips .

Yet, it may reduce this site traffic as some members are not willing to pay .

So my suggestion is , set a low price for each tip . Like 1.99 per tip .

Hi Elson,

This is an old discussion. The current public tips will remain public. Special tips will be added to the new premium tip group, and will cost a yearly subscription fee of $29.95.

Hi Jen:  It's a YES and NO for me.  Understanding the reasons why one would have to take protective measures though makes it easy to understand =).  So, do what you need to do.  You've been a blessing to so many already.  But like Adam, I too, don't have the "extras" to spare; trying to muzzle up donations myself with running more than one network (not complaining), just thankful that so far I can keep it afloat.  Even in "ministry", it takes money to pay the "bills".  But as soon as I can, I will make a contribution regardless.

I wonder if I should delete this discussion? It is way over a year old. The free tips that you have used and loved ;-) will continue to be free. I created a new group for the premium tips.

Oh wow . . . I had received an email just recently on this discussion, since I follow.....so I thought I thought it was a current thing.  I don't think I've been a member that long...lol....Sorry . . . maybe you should delete so there's no confusion..... thank for the assurance ;-).
