Hi Jeff,
The problem with making a Ning site wider, is it effects all modules. And, it depends on the default theme you select too. It gets messy real quick, so I don't offer this for customization or tips. All I can do is give you some starter CSS styles. But, I must warn you, it will effect other modules.

I'm hoping and expecting that Ning will offer wider themes in the future.
