Show 100+ discussions from specific Group on one page, so your members can scroll through the list.
I had a need to display all Discussions on one page, from a special Group - - the Ning Tips. It's a situation where I want members to be able to scroll through the entire list, without having to change pages. In fact, here's the link that allows you to scroll through all of our Ning Tips:
http://theningdirectory.ning.com/group/ningnetworktips/forum?pageSi...Here's the link to accomplish this:http://yourning.ning.com/group/groupname/forum?pageSize=#
- Replace yourning with your Ning Network Name.
- Replace groupname with your Group Name.
- Replace pageSize # with the number of Discussion items you want to display on one page.
- Once your link is ready, a great way to give access to your Members, is by adding a menu tab or sub-tab under the same type content. For example, here on the Ning Directory, I added a sub-tab under the main tab: Tips via Manage/Tab Manager.
I called it "Scroll Through All Tips", and the URL I used for the sub-tab is:
/group/ningnetworktips/forum?pageSize=160
This may be limited to 100 discussions. It's get a little difficult trying to figure out how many are on one
page. I think >100, it's gets a little unreliable. But, it's sure nice to see so many on one page.
Maybe one of Ning's Engineers will see this discussion, and let us know the limitations, for sure.
Summary of what this tip is used for:
This tip came about because I really wanted to show more tips on one page, so members did not have to click on the page numbers like, 2,3,4,5 NEXT etc... But, where they could scroll through all the tips, on one page.
So, when you have a Group with a lot of discussions (posts), and a member clicks on
View All, they see something like this:
I want to show as many discussions on one page as possible. And, that's the purpose of this tip.
Enjoy,
Jen
NOTICE AND DISCLAIMER:I really want to find out from Ning how this works - - exactly how their pageSize parm works. For example, I'm fairly certain that it doesn't display 100's of discussions one after another. It appears to
display so many, and not show the page number buttons. So, this
isn't a perfect science, for sure.
But on the upside: I really like being able to scroll through a lot of posts, all on one page. When I use this, I add both the regular link and the "scroll through" link.
