I want to organize my photos and videos in a certain way, and then link to them using sub-tabs in my navigation bar. I am wondering if there is a way I can do this myself, or do I need to find a 3rd party app to do so?

Here's is what I would like to do:

PHOTOS: I already know that members can put their photos into albums. What I would like to do, is have each person's album, or even a slideshow, on their own page. Then under my main tab, Photos, I would like to list each member's name. This way, members can just click on the name of their choice, and be taken directly to that person's photo page, without having to wade through all of the photos.

VIDEOS: I would like to do something similar with videos, except I would like to group them by artists or categories. This might be trickier because we can put videos into an album of sorts, can we?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can only add up to 10 sub-tabs to a main menu tab. Unless this has changed, and I don't know about it.

Unfortunately, short of adding good tags, there is no good way to organize photos or videos. I hope Ning will add Categories in the future.

One way to organize is by adding special search URLs based on important tags. For example, if your members entered good tags when they upload photos or videos of their dogs, you could add a subtab under Photos that says "Photos - Our Dogs" and make the URL for the subtab:
http://precioushearts.ning.com/photo/photo/search?q=dog
Two key elements:
1. Add good tags. You can even go in and add additional tags.
2. Change the word dog to the tag you want to search on.

Hope that helps,
Jen
Thanks Jen, it does. Actually, I figured out how to do the photos. I realized that most members already had them in albums, so I just used the url for their album page, used their name, and added as a sub-tab. Yes, the limit on 10 sub-tabs will make this sort of thing tricky. But I will figure it out, as we now have a ton of main tabs allowed.

My biggest problem is with the videos. I could use your tagging method for them, but then I would have to add a search feature. I don't currently have one because my site is so small.

Thanks for the advice! I hope this helps others too : D
My pleasure.

The search is built-in to the photo, videos, members, etc... The search string example I gave you will work for your photos. Just change the tag word. To find the string for other modules, click on module name like Video, search for something, and copy the URL.
Great tip Jen. I've been looking for this same feature on another site I've started.
