Hi Fred,

First let me suggest, I would not invest a lot of time or money into any possible changes right now. Ning 3.0 is here, and we will be forced to move over in approximately 1.25 to 1.5 years from now. The design CSS will not transfer from Ning 2.0 to Ning 3.0.

In regards to your requests, I will make comments next to each. A lot of these are platform related and cannot be fixed except by Ning. With the implementation of 3.0, it's doubtful things will speed up or get better in 2.0. :\

1) It's much too slow! Photo slideshow is slow and I removed Google ads because they slowed it down even  more. - Platform related

2) Facebook integration is limited, unreliable and slow. I tried Addthis but it made it load even slower. - Feature and Platform relate

3) I have tried many ways of creating a slider and a hero box but without success. I have pasted all the correct codes in the correct places but it hasn't worked.

You can have this done for a fee. It depends on what you want, number of slides/links, if you have your own images, etc...

4) Every member's page should have a Facebook comment box but this has never worked.

Not sure what you mean by this one. Do you have custom code installed that's not working?

5) Members find the site hard to use.

Again, I wouldn't invest in design work (which would improve the User Experience and navigation issues) until Ning 3.0.

Thanks Jen. But any suggestions for a quick fix to my speed/hero box/slider problems? I've tried everything and these will need fixing or the site will die

Sorry Fred, it's likely that it won't be a quick fix. I would have to look at the code and see where it went wrong. I'm really booked right now. Did you try "NCs for Hire" on Creators.ning.com? I suggest contacting Vaqz. He's really great and quick at this sort of thing. I would leave a comment on his profile page and send a private message.

Fred,

I notice you have some HTML code in your Advanced CSS. You can only add CSS to that box, no HTML like links. Here's part of the code I see in your CSS that you need to remove.

OK, so I've been quoted $175 for these fixes, which I can't pay right now. But really the main thing is a slider (Ning 2.0). Has anyone got some code that actually works? I pasted the code recommended by Ning but the slider doesn't, er, slide.

Any help most welcome :)

Hi Fred,

That's not a bad quote. But, it probably includes the Designer creating the images or getting them ready for the slider. Do you have your images, titles, and links for the slider?
