Looking for mac version of NotePad. Is TextMate or TextWrangler what I need?

Hi, I will ask my question here since I never seem to get any responses on creators.

I am looking for a reliable Mac/apple version of notepad. Someone told me they thought TextMate or TextWrangler would work. Does anyone have any experience with these? Is one better than the other? Or is another alternative better for use on macs?

I am hoping to find a mac text editor that is a free download or at least low cost, but will allow me to save and edit all of my ning network and blog codes.

It used to be TextEdit. Look under applications or search for it.

If that isn't there, Google these words: notepad mac equivalent

And you'll get a ton of probably good answers.

Sorry, I work on Macs, but been a while. I had a duo and gave it up to someone who needed it more than I did.

Best,

Jen

Thanks Jen. I found it. Do you remember how you saved it? It doesn't seem to want me to save my document with the ending .css

I am getting low on css space and would like to move my css code into the custom code box using the vip tip.

Hi CP,

It won't let you "save as"? If not, just save as filename.txt and rename to filename.css.

Best,

Jen

It lets me "save as", but only gives me the options for .rtf, .doc, .docx, .xml, .odt, or .html. When i try to end with .css, it says I must save one of the options or both and then it saves as .css.doc or whatever of the options I select.

I got it, i believe. I saved it as .docx, then went to format and changed it to plain text. Then a popup window appeared and asked me to pick a unicode format. I wasn't sure which of those to select, but I picked one and then it allow me to add .css at the end. I will try inserting it into the custom code tomorrow.

HTML would be better. The docx will have hidden characters like word processor files do, that can trip you up. I'm really surprised there isn't a text file save. There's got to be a better way for you to do this. I'll ask my MAC Guys and let you know.

I would save as HTML, go to File Explorer and rename.

Best,

Jen
