Ok, here's a nut to crack!

On my network I have a facebook "I like" on the splash page and another one in the right hand column, inside the network.

The splash page says 92 likes - the right hand column says 6 likes. Both is targeted to the main URL www.MyAppleSpace.com

?

When I copy the code from the splash page into the right hand column, nothing displays. Blank space.

who can crack that nut? I'm baffled !

edit: I have attached a file with the facebook like codes

facebook LIKE mystery.html

Hi Brian!

I've had the same experience, everywhere. Although you say they both (splash and right column) have the same targeted URL, I don't think they do, not to facebook. Why? Because your splash page is a redirect.

Here's an idea of what you'll run into with the fb like on a Ning site, or probably any site with multiple pages. Let's say you send out a broadcast message with a link to a special group, and that group has 100 likes. If anyone accesses the Group via their email you just sent out, it will add special characters to the email URL. THEN, the member "likes" that page. You will not see the 100 go up to 101. They are considered 2 totally different URLs. Although you say you are targeting one URL, I believe this may be happening to you, too.

Otherwise, I have no clue. Maybe someone else will.

Good luck,

Jen

Brian, the way I understand it, there are 2 implementation methods: iframe and XFBML. The XFBML version is more versatile, but requires use of JavaScript SDK.

I'm using the iframe version. However, you are correct - - the one I use dynamically "likes" the current url.

Here's the tip and same one I use:

http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like

So, unfortunately, don't know what's happening in your case.

Best,

Jen
