The address to this site is different from the name. I originally started the site for Lupus. Then realized that most lupus patients have Fibromyalgia as well. Lupus can lead to other illnesses, due to medication side effects, or lupus itself just attacking. The butterfly is known in lupus for the "butterfly rash" that is on the face in some patients. It runs along the bridge of the nose, over the cheek area, and sometimes up into the eye area. Most of us with lupus look at the butterfly itself, as freedom from this illness. Fibromyalgia decided to use the butterfly as their symbol as well and passed this information along in 2008. Both share the ribbon in the color purple.

I, and others, believe that the Butterfly is a great symbol for those with invisible illness(es).
