Creating a State by State Directory For Your Ning Network

All that is needed to use this for your network to create a state by state directory, is copy and paste into a blank Word Document, Use Find and Replace tool in Word with your Ning Name with copy this -->(Your Ning Name Here) and replace with --> (livelaughlovetoshop)

Example--> http://www (Your Ning Name Here) /profiles/members/search?location=

To:--> http://www.livelaughlovetoshop/profiles/members/search?location=

When you have completed this process then try it by copy and pasting into a page you create.

When you click on state then you will see all members in that state, their profile photo, the link to their profile and a comment link. Great tool for meeting people in your city for creating offline networking groups.

Do you know if I can limit the search to only "featured members"? In other words, how can I add not only a state criteria, but also the criteria that they be featured members as well?

Hi David, I dont know if you can do it the way you explain, however you can always create a list with your featured members profiles with a hyperlink. Usually we only have 7 featured members at a time, unless you make up your own list, which means you could round it up by 1 more and add this list to a sidebar.

I have a profile question that asks members to identify themselves (I am a..) photographer, artist, business etc. from a multiple choice question. Would you know if there's any way to create a directory based on this criteria?

I added the code to a page, and when I click on a state it takes me to "page not found". What have I done wrong? I simply pasted the text in the text box after clicking on the html tab. I changed the name to my ning network name before doing this as well.

OK figured it out, I needed to have my ning network name and .com. FYI, Arkansas shows up on the list twice and there is an extra line of code for CA, which is not needed.

Oh another thing, there are two lines, (TX and TN) that don't have (Your Ning Name Here), it appears without the parentheses. I have attached a new document with the corrections:

1. Corrected Your Ning Name Here

2. Replaced 1 Arkansas with Alaska

3. Removed extra code for CA

4. Added extra line in the instructions to help with "page not found" because of potentially needing .com on the name. Maybe this is only for some folks.

Where do you paste this in a text box? and if so can you add a text box under the members tab so it only shows there. Also is there a way this can be added as drop down menu?

Yes to all. I created a page, and added this code to the text box html, created the page, copied the url of the page and then went to the tabs menu and created a new tab, making sure to use an existing url option, which you past your url into the space provided, then make it a sub-menu under your members tab, save the tab, botta bing, your done ... that is what I did and it works great.
