I had a quick question I was hoping someone could answer. If we route our domain name to a Ning network, are we still able to use email addresses from that domain name with, say, a regular host?

I have a regular hosting account and I use email addresses for my domain. I now want to forward that domain to a Ning network. Do I lose the ability to use the email addresses?

Thanks in advance!

You may need to contact your domain name provider because in order for your members to be able to email content to the network you will need to change the MX records for your domain. These are the records that handle your email accounts. If you leave them you should be fine, however, I'm unaware if they will work in conjunction with a new MX record from Ning to route your members content.

Ning has a tutorial on this that states you need to erase the existing records, if you do so, this will erase your current email settings, which I think you don't want to do. This is where the issue lies, in the emailing content to your network feature. Ning generates emails for you members and it needs access to your domain name's MX records.

I hope that helped. Although I'm sure it's not a definitive answer. Maybe someone else has tried to use both sets of email records and has more to offer.

Same answer. You will have to consult your current host. I assume the domain name now leads to a server host. This is probably out of the reach of help we can give. I would contact your host, definitely.
