Is there a way to change the name of a Ning App Title?

I know you can change the name of it on the tab menu bar but can the title be changed on main page of our apps?

I know that a few like the Listings by APPS.IO offer configuration settings. For the others, I don't know of a way, sorry.

Thanks Jen,

I'm going to try this same question over on the NC site to see if someone may have conquered it.

If you didn't know I'm not having high hopes but I'll let you know if someone does.

(I just realized this new comment box doesn't have auto spill spell check.)

Was anyone able to shed any light on this? It's a good question if you ask me. ;-)

Thanks,

Jen

Jen,

A Ning App is simply iframed onto a Ning page. The Ning App can only control what's inside the iframe.

The "title" is actually on the Ning page. The problem lies with Ning not giving us any access to change the title, meta-tags, description or url’s of these app pages.

The only way around it is to find out how to iframe the Ning app onto a "created" page that Ning allows us to do. (and set it up using Dreamweaver)

I have contacted "Sites Suites" which is the app I'm interested in to see if they can instruct me how to iframe their app onto a different page but they still haven't gotten back to me.

Oh, right. I agree with your assessment of the situation in regards to having access to parameters. However, I've afraid to add a Ning App to a nested iframe within a new page, will just be a mess and slow down the load time even more. I feel the Ning apps are a huge mistake, and should have never been added to the platform. I have slowly but surely added/removed, added/removed several of them. They always perform poorly, even the apps built by the best of Developers.

But, just my thoughts on it.

Thank you for the update!

Jen

Hi Jen

Firstly, you've got a great site here ...i'm still finding my feet with Ning but have implemented several of your hack tips and you site has been a fantastic help thus far.

You mentioned above that it's possible to amend the Listings App name...could you explain how this is possible please? I've used the language editor but I have been unable to rename the main heading of "listings". I agree with your final comment also in that I'm not too keen on the apps I've tried so far, although the listings one seems ok...albeit a little slow to load. Have you found any better alternatives?

Thanks a lot!

Anna

Hi Anna,

I believe you go to the Listings main link, click on Configure Listings/Listings Language Editor. Then you will see something like this:

Language Editor

Change Listings App Title

To change the app title from "Listings" to something else, click here.

Best,

Jen

Thanks Jen I have absolutely no idea how I managed to miss that!

Cheers

Anna
