A word of advice for NC's and moderators alike

I consider it to be extremely rude when a discussion is closed to further replies w/out advanced noticed; Especially when it is a great discussion that has many participants and is ongoing. See, what happened was......

I created a discussion on this other NING network I am a member of. Since originally posted last night around 11pm, the discussion gained 61 replies and over 300 views. Now, I learned of this network via Creators a few months back and liked the niche so I joined and participated (adding great content, etc). I had not been on the site in awhile until last night. So, as I am thoroughly enjoying a great discussion with many members weighing in, I look up to see that the discussion was closed and the leaderboard was changed so that it would not show my discussion as a most popular item. Mind you, the NC even participated in the discussion (in full disagreement with my post). One would think that a little common courtesy of "hey, this discussion is pretty heated, so I'm going to close it" would be in order. I got all kinds of thank you's and stuff back when I joined and added other great content, albeit less controversial. My point, or rather advice is this: don't diss your members by closing their discussion w/ out notice. Especially if you are the NC and you disagree with the post....it makes you look pretty bad imo. Not to mention that there was no name calling or really out-of-line commenting; Just a good ole fashioned political debate.
As a result, I am going to leave the network and delete my content when I go. I have left the NC a comment asking why my discussion was closed but I ain't even gonna stick around for the answer. It's kinda f'd up because I thought the network was pretty cool....

P.S. I know it's to each their own on how NC's run their networks but still...I just think it's pretty rude how this played out.

LOL I was going to ask you why you didn't just reopen it.
Hahaha! Live and you learn. You can reopen your discussions on Creators too. Of course, they can always close it again or delete it.
Facebook is notorious for that nonsense. I have them on speed dial though, haven't had a problem since.
Sounds like this network isn't worth your time.  Good riddance to bad rubbish...

No one is allowed to close a discussion on my site.  I don't even close them unless something horrible is going on there (like people cussing each other out or something like that).   I've never had that happen before, anyway.

I'm with you. It's insulting that someone closed it.  Yes, you can re=open it, but what's to stop the NC from closing it again??  You need to take this up privately with the person who closed it initially.  If controversial content is cause for closing discussions, then the NC needs to set forth specific guidelines as to what constitutes "controversial".  Just because someone doesn't agree with it, doesn't mean YOUR voice shouldn't be heard.

(I have very strong views on censorship.  LOLOL  I'm a librarian...can't help myself.  Self-appointed censors piss me off.)

Good advice, and I agree.

In your particular case I don't get it. I don't think any discussion should be closed unless the activity is: inappropriate to the site (like a business site with specific guidelines on topics allowed), rude or extremely crude, racist, illegal, dangerous, or disrespectful. If it's just "opinions" like yours, what's the big deal? Very odd to me that your discussion was closed. This type of censorship is unnecessary, IMO.

I love Marvin Gaye. =)

Yeah, so I don't jump to judgement on their reasons, your comment "...hardline debating was deemed negative energy" is astute, and may be the issue. It would have been nice if you'd received a private message though.
