On the other hand I was playing little bit with the theme-design stuff at Spruz, actually is not bad at all...

I have moved to spruz and it is not bad at all ,maybe all the creators could try their hand at creating themes for spruz for us technically challenges people and for those setting up and needing help apparently there is a video on youtube

How do folks do Migration?

Shekinah, I don't think Ning has a migration tool to do that. You have to pick a site and they have the migration tool. I will just download stuff from my nings and upload at my news sites.

I joined Grou.ps I can't find how to put a chat on it. There is a chat's log. But not a chat. Can some one please advise. They are no help there.

I have started putting content onto Spruz, having spent hours on a trial site.

I have just attempted to add a page to be told I have already exceeded the limit of 10. That's not good enough for me!

The Chat on grou.ps is located like nings at the bottom right as a pop up, the chat on the top bar of grou.ps is just a history of the pop up chat :)

Spruz has a default 100mb storage limit, to small for most ning networks.
Grou.ps has 10GB storage same as ning, Wackwall is good also but i'm not sure about thier storage limit. Anyone tried Yuku? do they really have unlimited storage?

Have just come across this:

While blogging tools like WordPress and TypePad have recently undergone considerable overhauls to their respective blogging interfaces, a service called Viviti is going in a different direction. The blog host lets you edit and manage your content right on the page. There's still a simple WYSIWYG editor, but all you have to do to edit and change content and the look and feel of the site is to click and drag the bits and pieces around. Users of Ning will feel right at home.

l think you need to add links to your link page, and to get the links, l do not know for sure, but l have ning directoy on my link page and they even have a thumbnail veiw of this sites home page.

Ask friends for their links and add them on the link page. That way you cam go back and forth. l am sorry l am not more help, but l am still learning.

Wackywall uses Tiny chat and won't let me use it on Wackywall unless I use my wacky wall account i guess. Keeps saying I am not an administrator.

webstarts is a peace of junk. I can't even figure out how ot cancel.

Spruz is too small for a large group of members
Bigtent lets you have a lot of members but it is not that easy or pretty

i migrated to groups from ning as we dont have the time to muck around i owe that to my members i tried spruz and was not impressed with it groups is the best iff you need any help with groups give me a shout

And You can have your members connect to facebook (log in with facebook) and users can synchronize with their Facebook accounts

I know I saw the first page. I haven't joined since I don't get Eastenders on my tv here in the states.

Taxi, I think you can use your own themes on Wackwall, though I am still a newbie. You have to attack the CSS to make the changes, though. Tip: Once you have made your first changes, save a copy of the current CSS before you start playing with it next time!

It has come to my attention that Social Parody.com is off line. I wonder why. I went there when a ning site was about to transfer over. I got the shock of my life. Needless to say I wouldnt have recommended this site. I was appaulled by there advertising and other. Lets put it this way you had to be over 18 to use it. And Playboy would love this site.

That is an understatement, Jen. I Was appauled. I have learned since it has been taken offline.

Interesting and good news if you ask me. I detest it. Of course I'm sure if any Adult site advocate reads what I just wrote, I'll get ripped a new one. But I don't care. I despise porn, period. Adult sites for adult topics, different story. But the other GARBAGE, yuck. ;-)

If you have decided you will pay some money upfront, and want to possibly charge for entry to a site, I would suggest still taking a look at Dolphin. http://www.boonex.com/dolphin/ BUT, here's the thing. It is not for the lazy or fainthearted and it is not cheap. You start out free. And the installation on your own server or a paid server is necessary. To get a paid member site going, there are some expenses for mods. And if you wish to remove all the logos and licensing info...if is gonna cost you. The setup is similar to setting a Wordperfect blog up from scratch. It is written mostly in PHP and some knowledge of html is probably necessary. But just about everything can be changed.
You will see a lot of complaints about Boonex Dolphin but upon closer examination, the writers simply have not taken time to learn something. The benefits of this while lable social networking software are obvious. You own it...all of it. Move it to another server easily with members intact because all of it is available to you via FTP.
Certainly worth taking a look at this software that started out as a dating network software. I like it for SOME purposes. This is not the software you would want to bother with for a quick and dirty network, charitable causes or one time events. But if you are planning on getting thousands of members. It is certainly worth the time you put into it.

Yeah, a shame they've used names that are so close. I have deleted the comment about it being an Adult network. I'm sure it was an innocent mistake, especially when the 2 sites appear to be developed by the same Developer, and look exactly the same, except the tagline about Adult...
