Alternative Solutions to Ning

I joined Forest of Tranquility. Looks nice. I see nothing wrong with it. Nice job.

Most likely, l need glasses or to under better what l read. l guess the word adult jumps out in a wrong way with me. l shall take time reading. Sorry if l am missing something.

Forest, I am having a problem with forum and group tabs. They seem to go to the one same tab which is Forum tab. What gives on that?

I tried that. Didn't fix the problem.

Not sure what's happened here on the TOS you provided. They (Developers of these 2 platforms in discussion) probably changed the TOS you provided, as of today. I just looked and this is what I read:
"Social Paradox provides a non adult software platform (the "Social Paradox Platform") that enables users 13+ to browse, join or create Social Networks ..."

First, for the record, I don't consider anyone blind or trying to cause trouble here. IMHO, this is a simple misunderstanding, no more, no less.
Here's the deal. There is a very good chance that the TOS for the Adult platform WAS the same as the one for the non-Adult platform -- accidentally. Or, the links were screwy. If someone like the Douglas Archives accessed the page another day before it was fixed, he would still see the old page in cache - - quite possibly. :-)

Can we please drop the conversation about the parody versus paradox. The tone of this conversation is not the way we usually discuss things on JenSocial.

I realize a misunderstanding has taken place here. Let's accept that, and move to our next topic.

I feel I must share this with you, and you're probably not going to like what I'm going to share with you. But trust me, I only tell you out of my duty to help our members, the best I can.

Here it goes: The only unfortunate thing here, whether you realize it or not - - these 2 platforms will likely be associated with each other on some level. And, this really doesn't matter, except for one critical factor. If Google cross references the links and they link to each other, Google is likely to disable Google Adsense. If you're not using the Adsense program, then no problem. And, I have no idea if the 2 would ever be linked, just a suspicion that it's possible.

Socialparadox.com looks cleaner and friendlier that Socialparody. When I got on Socialparody and signed up I was then met with a picture of a woman is a sexual manner. Not with Socialparadox.com though.

Beth, these 2 platforms are owned by the same. Yes, you are correct that you should not see any Adult content on the one you are using.

l like what l did see on FOREST OF TRANQUILITY website. We all may run into some adult sites, but if we are mature we can just click off that site. l am sure there are many nice sites like FOREST OF TRANQUILITY and like yours will be. Ning has some adult sites also.

Not adult adds though like I ran into on Socialparody.com. Ning has been a friendly site. So far so has socialparadox.com

Jen, They maybe owned by the same company. But they are showing different platforms.

Maturity isn't what I'm talking about. It's the association. And yes you are correct, although Ning tries to monitor and remove them, there are still adult sites that pop up from time to time on Ning. But here's the big difference, Social Parody makes no bones about it.

Respectfully I say, I'm done with this discussion. I feel like I'm just adding non-valuable content at this point. You all enjoy, and good luck. I'm happy you're happy. ;-)

And one last positive note in closing, here's the great news. Although obviously built on the same foundation, they thought ahead in a very smart way. The IPs/Server addresses are completely different, as they should be.

For the record, I quite like Social Paradox. I have had a poke around, and apart from a couple of small bugs (and they all have them) it seems to work well. There are more templates than on Wackwall (I guess it is an Openwall structure?), though they are a little wacky in design, but as F of T has demonstrated, they can be modified extensively.

Your point about the use of GoogleAds is well made, but It is definitely worth a look at.

I'm surprised you didn't. I call tell you from first-hand conversation, Spruz is not happy about this, most unfortunate event. And, I don't feel they deserve this. But, in order to maintain a sustainable platform, they've been backed up in a corner, and have no choice. I'm hoping that Google will do the right thing and enable their account.

Well, Jen. Forgive me for being cynical...but I am an old guy. And it looks very much like to my thinking that Spruz has seen the impracticability of their model and have decided to jump in with Ning and Socialgo in charging for anything worth having. My solution for my Charitable and Non-Profits is to switch them over to Wordpress 3.0 on my "unlimited" server account. A buddypress installation should take care of the rest. I get it. Social Networking is here to stay. Thats the message that they are sending me. White label networking is the way to go...but it isn't going to be all free, much longer. Oh, well, pretty much as I expected.

That's fine Tom. I understand your being cynical, 100%. But, I will say to you, you've known me for a while now via Internetland. And, I think you know my brutally (LOL) honest reputation. And, maybe I'm just being naive about this.

I spoke with Jay over the phone, and I believe this has really happened. I'm not suggesting they would not have made this decision for other reasons in the future. I have no idea. But, I do believe this is the reason for the recent changes.

And I definitely agree with the points you've made about white label, "here to stay", etc...

Yes, this site is still running on the Ning platform. I see no reason to change it, especially with everyone's advertising and work our members have put into this site.

But, it serves as a Directory and Hub for all Social Networks.

l figure if you are going to have to pay, then stay with ning. Spruz really is nice but now they want to charge and their free was cut back to what it was when l first sign up.

Yes, most people do have a limit income. A lot of my members went to the Mini Plan. Some move on to other sites.
