Looking for a ning alternative for a small temporary network

I want to make an network for students and teachers that are going on a high school trip together.  It needs to be free and simple.  There are 350 people going.


I just set up a wall.fm site, but it crashes constantly, and as I started looking through their blogs, I'm not even sure it is going to remain free.  

 

Any suggestions?

        You can try building a network on http://smallcommunities.mixxt.com/

        It's free for small networks, although I don't know the whole range of features, etc. 

        You can also try spruz.com, they offer free sites. 

        Grou.ps has a few deals at a ridiculously low price, like 2$ and up and they have some nice features.
