I love a happy wildlife rescue story! Not all rescues end happily ever after, and even this rescue story that I'm about to post has a tragic note, because the mama bear was killed to poach the baby cubs. The poachers took the twins to an illegal bile farm in Vietman. But the Environmental Police raided the bile farm and rescued the itty bitty cubs. They are now in the custody and care of loving people at Animals Asia. I thought everybody here would like to read this story of rescue.…

Late Breaking Earth Day News
Bear cubs rescued in Vietnam Animals Asia's Vietnam bear sanctuary has two new residents: tiny twin Moon Bear cubs. Following a tip-off, the Environmental Police raided an old bile farm on Sunday, which used to have bears. They confiscated the cubs, and the cubs are now in the care of Animals Asia. The itty bitty babes -- Maggie and Damo -- received immediate veterinary care at Animals Asia and are reported to be in good health.
According to Animals Asia's bear manager, "Maggie is very shy and laps milk from her bowl, clearing up every last drop very quickly. Damo is very energetic and plays rough, and he won’t lap from a bowl, preferring to take his milk from a bottle.” Successful rescue missions are the focal point of animal welfare work, but they aren't possible without donor support. It costs $9,000 a year for Animals Asia to medically treat a rescued bear and feed, rehabilitate and keep her in good health. The cubs need sponsors, like so many other rescued bears at the sanctuary. Please support UFP's Earth Day Bear Sponsorship drive and donate today. All donation sizes are vital to the continuation of rescuing moon bears from lives of unending torture and pain. Donations are tax deductible in Hong Kong, Australia, UK, Germany and USA. The online donation pages at UFP and Animals Asia are encrypted via the highest SSL server for your security. Learn more about other bear rescues at
Jasper today, after being rescued from a bear bile farm by Animals Asia, and living free at their sanctuary in Chengdu, China. I wrote an article recently about bear bile farming and then decided it's not enough to write about a problem. I need to take action to solve it! So that's what I did, and now people across dozens of social networks have joined forces to launch a poster campaign to liberate 9,000 bears from crush cages in China, where they live torturous lives so their bile can be drained for Chinese medicine. We need thousands more people to join the Ursa Freedom Project. We need YOU! We will launch the poster campaign on March 20 (Vernal Equinox) and run a new poster each month with the idea of catapulting the whole globe into action by the time the action day arrives on June 21 (Summer Solstice). The advantage of setting an event to significant astronomical turning points would be that folks in the Southern Hemisphere could feel connected to the same sky even if the constellation they would focus on would be different. We will drop money bombs to Animals Asia, the bear rescue organization in China, on both designated days: March 20 and June 21. On summer solstice (June 21), we will hold concerts, art auctions, dramas, theater readings, poetry slams, etc. to raise awareness and funds to rescue bears and put an end once and for all to bear farming. Artists have already stepped forward to make the posters and others are designing original art that we can sell to raise money for bear rescue. We have signed up our first Benefit for Bears concert with a band in San Francisco. A fashion designer is creating a one-of-a-kind jacket to be auctioned for the bears. All of this in just 3 days, since the idea sprung forth on Saturday between two internet friends. But we need more! The plan is to create local actions all over the world on behalf of the bears! We also need people who know how to make the Ursa Freedom Project go viral. We need folks to upload the posters everywhere, and we need podcasters, vidcasters, bloggers. We need a technie to design a banner and badges, and we need photographers to document local events that we can post on the internet. We need a massive cyber "street team." I'm dedicating myself to ending the suffering of these magnificent creatures in crush cages and am asking you to be part of the Ursa Freedom Project. You can read about bear bile farming at
Think about it: the chimpanzee population in the Ivory Coast has been reduced by 90% in just 20 years. They are nearly extinct. There are only 700 Mountain Gorillas left in the Congo. They, too are going extinct. Extinction is forever. It is irreversible. I'm shameless, I know. I posted this same info under discussions. But I'm also posting it here. Why? Because I'm looking for innovative ecopreneurs to showcase on my network, and I figured with all the creative people in this ning network directory, there's bound to be a few of you who hang with clever, creative and innovate folks who are working to help heal Mother Earth. Send them my way!
costaricapages Nearly 80 percent of the garbage in Costa Rica’s dumps could be recycled, if there were recycling centers throughout the country. To draw attention to the problem some innovative women in Tamarindo went to the local landfill and collected materials for haute couture designer wear. Among their finds for bikinis and ball gowns were inner tube tires, coffee bags and plastic jugs, beer cans, cardboard boxes and aluminum pull rings. The women glued and stitched together some amazing over-the-top fashions and then held a runway show in a trendy night club. The ecopreneurs will use the money raised to begin a recycling program in Tamarindo, one of Costa Rica’s most popular beach towns.
