Permalink Reply by The Networking Fool on October 17, 2011 at 12:14pm The post I referenced in my question, unfortunately I can no longer find, but I don't think it's important. It is simply a creator's member providing a script to make the site no-follow.
No follow has been an ongoing issue in Ning for a long time. When the big change took place, Ning implemented a no-follow rule (as seen here http://creators.ning.com/forum/topics/two-new-tools-in-the-fight?co...) and we got a confirmation from Ning (as seen in this post http://creators.ning.com/forum/topics/nofollow-in-blog-links) that the entire site was "no-follow" and it could not be changed but they were going to make it a moderator option eventually.
I have also seen some posts saying that the moderators turned off the no-follow for the site. I have yet to see that option, but perhaps I missed it. Is that a creator-only option (I'm just a lowly admin).
Permalink Reply by JenSocial on October 17, 2011 at 4:06pm This is in regards to rel=follow and rel=nofollow
From wikipedia:
nofollow is a value that can be assigned to the rel attribute of an HTML a element to instruct some search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target's ranking in the search engine's index. It is intended to reduce the effectiveness of certain types of search engine spam, thereby improving the quality of search engine results and preventing spamdexing from occurring.
Permalink Reply by JenSocial on October 17, 2011 at 4:05pm Correct. All links you add to a Ning site are automatically rel=nofollow. Which I complained very loudly when this was implemented? Why? Because on my site I wanted good sites to be able to enjoy a follow link. However on the flip side, the default nofollow prevents spammers from dropping links with a purpose. I'm pretty sure this will never change. It is nofollow, and this cannot be changed.
Best Regards,
Jen

I couldn't figure out why the member was giving out a script for making the site no-follow, or why that idiot Eric didn't say anything (he seems to have a big mouth about everything else :).
Best to you as always my friend.
Permalink Reply by JenSocial on October 17, 2011 at 4:49pm Ahhh, that would confuse the issue. I'm not sure if a member could force a rel=follow on their page or in a discussion via the HTML, etc...I've never tried.
To you too, and nice to hear from you!
Best Regards,
Jen

If you are receiving follows in your email for this discussion, I did not just say "ahhh", LOL. I had to retype my last reply. The goofy editor didn't save my original response.
Best,
Jen
