Aug 20 Grace period ends for existing Ning Networks to select Ning Mini, Ning Plus or Ning Pro.
Good question - - Sorry I missed this until today. I believe the key is: When you actually "select your new plan". On July 20, you should have the option of selecting 1 of 3. I think you will have 30 days to decide, but not positive. However, I would think, if you select the mini on July 20, then you will see the features for mini.
If you want to make sure, you can call Ning just for this purpose:
"You can't purchase until July 20th, but until then we’ll do our best to answer questions about our three main options. Call us at (888) NING 898 (9-5 PST) (International: 1 (650) NING-ASK) or email us at email@example.com. We can’t answer support questions via these two channels, but we can offer our honest advice about which plan we think will fit your community the best. If we aren’t able to answer your call, leave us a message!"
Ning will not "help" transfer data. They will offer a file that contains all of the archived data from your Network. That's really all they can do, since they would not know the data structure of other social networks.
It's definitely not a simple process, or one click of a button, unfortunately. The key is: the receiving party/platform. Have they spent the time and written the program that will import this Ning data? Be sure to ask any future Social Network Platform provider this question. Also be aware, data across these platforms and how it is stored, will be very different. There will likely never be a perfect import application. However, I expect in the future, there will be some good imports out there - - from Ning to another specific Social Network Platform. Only time will tell, who will build the best product. The tricky question will be: Will the best import application be written by the best Social Network alternative?
As always, if I hear of any great import on any platform, I'll report it here on JenSocial.
In the meantime, you can get to the new backup data from:
I'm really not sure. I wonder if you buy the one month if that nails down your plan and you lose the year discount thingy, if you didn't take the yearly subscription in the first place? It might be better to not choose your plan until closer to the August deadline. But really, I don't know.
